L V Prasad College Students Industrial Visit to Tamil Janam News Channel

In a valuable learning experience, B.Sc. Visual Media students from LV Prasad College of Media Studies visited the Tamil Janam News Channel as part of their academic curriculum. Accompanied by Mr. Ferozkhan, Heads the Department of Visual Media, the group of 10 students got a firsthand look at the fast-paced world of news production.

The visit began with a detailed introduction to the channel’s infrastructure, including key operational zones like the Production Control Room (PCR) and the Master Control Room (MCR). Students observed the live broadcast workflow, from cueing reporters and switching cameras to managing live audio and teleprompter updates. The behind-the-scenes coordination left a strong impression on the aspiring media professionals.

The team also explored the technological backbone of the channel. Tools such as “Univision” for content sourcing, Adobe After Effects for creating graphics, and automation software like Octopus Newsroom, Vizrt, and Avid iNews were showcased. These tools streamline content creation, script management, and real-time graphics integration—key aspects in today’s digital broadcasting world.

A major highlight was understanding the news collection and editorial process. Reporters from across Tamil Nadu contribute to a WhatsApp-based network that helps share updates in real time. The editorial team’s dedication to verification and ethical standards was evident as they reviewed and edited content for final broadcast.

Students were also introduced to strategies behind advertisement placement and how breaking news is delivered with animation overlays and live tickers.

This industrial visit not only provided theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting but also inspired the students to better understand the evolving dynamics of broadcast journalism.
