We’re thrilled to announce that Laapataa Ladies, the uniquely humorous and vibrant film directed by the talented Kiran Rao, is in consideration to represent India at the Oscars 2025! This project has been an exciting journey for our team, as we had the privilege to provide color grading on Baselight, mastering, and QC for this heart-warming story set in rural India.
Bringing a Story to Life Through Colour
Set in 2001, Laapataa Ladies tells the lively tale of two brides lost on a train in rural India, mixing humour with the nostalgia of the early 2000s. Through expert colour grading on Baselight, our colourists Michele Ricossa and Kirankumar Kota crafted a palette that reflects the vibrant, earthy tones of rural life while enhancing the film’s playful yet poignant atmosphere. Our colour grading work helped bring out every nuance of the film’s quirky, heart-warming story, allowing each frame to capture the humour, intensity, and charm of this unique world.
Perfecting the Final Cut with Mastering and QC
In addition to colour grading, we took great care with the mastering and QC of Laapataa Ladies, ensuring that the final product meets the highest technical standards for theatrical and international screenings. Every aspect of mastering was meticulously handled to preserve the film’s visual storytelling, while rigorous QC checks ensured that the film’s quality shines through every scene, ready for the world stage.
Honoured to Be Part of the Journey
Being associated with a project as special as Laapataa Ladies is both an honour and a privilege. The news of it being considered for the Oscars has filled us with pride and excitement. Our heartfelt congratulations go to Kiran Rao and the entire team for this incredible achievement. Watching the film evolve through each stage of production has been a joy, and we’re thrilled to see it gain such well-deserved recognition.
Here’s to Hollywood!
While the decision on India’s official entry is yet to be finalized, we are excited about the potential for Laapataa Ladies to reach the Oscars. This recognition would not only honour the film’s journey but also celebrate everyone involved in bringing this story to life. Stay tuned as we cheer Laapataa Ladies on toward Oscar glory!
