Australian Warlpiri Community Representatives, AIATSIS, and Frankfurt’s Senckenberg Museum Visit OMNIMAGO

Warlpiri Elders Warren Japanangka Williams and Ned Jampitjinpa Hargraves, along with around 20 representatives from Australia, recently visited OMNIMAGO’s facilities in Ingelheim. Together, we reviewed archival film materials currently in our care, originally recorded over 50 years ago by an Austrian researcher and now part of the Senckenberg Museum’s collection. The archives include numerous audio recordings, some captured on a portable Mini-Nagra recorder, which were also available for review.

This visit was particularly significant, as it marked the first time the visitors could see and hear these historical recordings. The gathering coincided with a ceremonial handover of important artifacts to the Warlpiri Community in Germany.
