September 11, 2024 – LV Prasad College of Media Studies (LVPCMS), Chennai, marked the Onam festival with a vibrant celebration on September 11, 2024, filled with cultural performances, games, and communal spirit. The festivities began with a beautiful pookolam (flower carpet) at the college entrance, showcasing intricate designs crafted by students using fresh flowers, setting a festive tone for the day.
The event moved to the parking lot, where the Student Council organized a series of engaging activities. One of the first events, “Sundarikku Pottu,” had participants blindfolded and challenged to place a bindi on an AI-generated image of a Sundari (beautiful woman). The game added a fun, competitive element, with students laughing and cheering each other on.
Music filled the air as both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students sang together. Malayali students particularly stood out, performing traditional Malayalam songs in their native style, adding a heartfelt touch to the celebrations.
Traditional dance performances followed, with first-year UG students performing a lively Malayalam folk dance. Aswin, a second-year BFA student, also impressed the crowd with an energetic and dynamic dance performance, showing the students’ diverse artistic talents.
The grand finale was the highly anticipated tug of war, where three teams competed in an exciting and energetic contest. Nearly all students participated, and the event ended with plenty of laughs and camaraderie, embodying the spirit of Onam.
Overall, the Onam celebrations at LVPCMS were a huge success, providing a platform for students to showcase their talents and come together in a spirit of unity and fun. The event highlighted the college’s diverse student body and its commitment to celebrating cultural traditions.
Onam Celebrations at Trivandrum
The Prasad Group in Trivandrum recently celebrated the vibrant festival of Onam with great enthusiasm and participation. The event commenced with a ceremonial lamp-lighting by Mr. Ajith P. George, General Manager of Prasad Group.
Employees from the Prasad Group, along with the faculties and students from LVPCMS, came together for a delightful “Onasadhya,” showcasing an array of traditional delicacies. Following the sumptuous meal, attendees engaged in various traditional Onam games that fostered camaraderie and team spirit among participants.
