Chennai, December 10, 2024 – L V Prasad College of Media Studies hosted an insightful Cinema Symposium featuring the acclaimed filmmaker P.S. Vinoth Raj, known for his experimental storytelling techniques. The event, held at the 70mm Deluxe Theatre, provided students with an immersive learning experience, combining a film screening with an in-depth discussion with the director himself.
The symposium showcased P.S. Vinoth Raj’s latest film, Kottukkaali (2024), an experimental work that has gained international recognition. Following the screening, an engaging Q&A session allowed students to explore the significance of his directorial journey. Vinoth Raj generously shared his creative process, offering insights into the evolution of Kottukkaali from script to screen.
During the discussion, he elaborated on various aspects of filmmaking, including the use of live sound, technical complexity, long takes, and unique editing techniques. He also emphasized the role of story and screenplay in shaping a film’s identity. He highlighted the importance of originality in filmmaking, stating that regional films can achieve transnational success by embracing their authenticity rather than conforming to commercial cinema formulas.
Reflecting on his film’s journey across global film festivals, He shared invaluable experiences about navigating the international circuit. He encouraged aspiring filmmakers to focus on content rather than budget constraints, affirming, “Budget is not a constraint, if the script demands it.”
