The 12th Chennai International Documentary and Short Film Festival, held from February 24th to 25th, 2024, at the prestigious Prasad Preview Theatre, was a resounding success. The event, which showcased a diverse range of documentaries and short films, also provided a platform for students from L V Prasad College of Media Studies to exhibit their talent.
The two-day festival attracted a crowd of over 350 people, including industry professionals, students, filmmakers, and documentary enthusiasts. The opening ceremony witnessed an inspiring address by Mr. R.P. Amudhan, who expressed gratitude to Prasad Corporation for hosting the event. The chief guest, Mr. Rajkumar, Registrar of L V Prasad College of Media Studies, highlighted the college’s commitment to nurturing young talent in the field of media.
The festival featured a compelling lineup of documentaries, including acclaimed works like “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar: Now and Then” by Jyoti Nisha and “Beyond Hatred and Power, We Keep Singing” by Ramdas Kadavallur. These films provided valuable insights into various social and historical issues, sparking thought-provoking discussions among the audience.
The second day of the festival was dedicated to showcasing the talent of L V Prasad PG Diploma students. Five short films – “Pehla Nasha,” “Victims,” “Raniyin Pulivedam,” “Nadigar Pandi,” and “Mudupani” – were screened to a receptive audience. The students received positive feedback for their work, with “Pehla Nasha” and “Victims” garnering particular praise.
A highlight of the festival was the screening of the documentary “My Radio My Life,” which was followed by an interactive session with the film’s team. The festival also witnessed the presence of renowned film editor B. Lenin and his team, who showed keen interest in the student films. Their presence added an aura of prestige to the event.
Adding to the college’s pride, Nithya GopalaKrishnan, an alumna of the Short Term – Direction of Film & TV certificate course, won the prestigious “Arunmozhi Memorial Award for the Best Short Fiction (Joint Runner)” for her film “Two Worlds.” This achievement underscored the college’s commitment to producing talented filmmakers.
