The collective vision of Prasad Corp. and NFAI-NFDC’s Preventive Conservation Project in Pune embodies a deep commitment to preserving India’s cinematic heritage. With Mr. Saiprasad at the helm and Sujit Suvarna leading the preventive conservation team, there’s renewed hope for rescuing films from obscurity.
Under the ‘preserve4posterity™’ initiative, around 60,000 reels, a significant portion of the archive, were restored. This mammoth task combined cutting-edge technologies, meticulous processes, and creative strategies. Each reel underwent manual assessment for degradation levels and received tailored treatments like desiccation, rehydration, repair, and ultra-cleaning. They were then stored in controlled environments to halt further decay.
Prasad’s contribution, alongside a dedicated team of over 120 professionals, is a testament to the ongoing mission of NFAI-NFDC to safeguard India’s cinematic legacy. Their efforts breathe new life into deteriorated films, ensuring they’re not lost to time’s effects. The ultimate goal is to prepare these films for scanning, bringing them back to audiences’ appreciation once more.
