Two-Days Master Class in Rhythmic Editing at L V Prasad College of Media Studies

Chennai, December 14, 2024: The Postgraduate Department of Editing and Post Production at L V Prasad College of Media Studies, Saligramam, Chennai, successfully hosted a two-day Master Class in Rhythmic Editing on December 13th and 14th, 2024. The workshop was conducted by veteran Indian film editor B. Lenin, providing students with an in-depth understanding of rhythmic editing techniques in cinema.

The first day of the master class featured a session with renowned percussionist Mr. Jeya Chandran (Jecha). He introduced participants to the fundamental concepts of bars and tones in music, helping them grasp the rhythmic composition of Indian cinema. His session enabled students to understand how musical signatures influence film editing and storytelling.

On the second day, B. Lenin took the lead, guiding students on how to effectively integrate musical changeovers as a vital editing tool. Using examples from his own films, he demonstrated various rhythmic editing techniques, emphasizing the impact of seamless transitions and pacing. Under his supervision, students engaged in hands-on exercises, practicing these techniques with the same footage to refine their editing skills.

The master class was a valuable learning experience, equipping aspiring editors with practical knowledge of rhythmic editing. The interactive sessions provided a unique opportunity to explore the intricate relationship between music and film editing, making it a significant event for students of film and media studies.
